As many car owners know, repair manuals being sold at your car service dealer are very expensive. The only cheap options you have are either to buy it at your local auto shop store that are published by other companies or find them on the internet. There are many online store sell these type of manual if you do a little simple search. However, the problem is these vendors may not have the repair manuals you are looking for sometimes they are not as complete.

The best option is try to search on eBay. You might think, why eBay? Well, you might not know, eBay actually has a lot and variety of auto repair and service manuals available that are being sold by various sellers every single day. Their manuals ready for sale can range from all name brands from Acura, Alfa Romeo, BMW, ......to Yamaha. You can sometimes even find manuals that are for classic or old cars and not even available in your local store or even on the internet. So if you have a hard time finding the service or repair manual online, why not give eBay a try. Not only the manuals that are sold on eBay are cheap, you can also get it on CD and just read it off your own computer. To search on eBay, you can use our search box on the top of right side bar to get you easily started or you can browse the car brand categories on the left sidebar.

Here we also provide you Amazon search in case you couldn't find any manuals that you are looking for:

Make sure you follow your maintenance schedule as outlined in your vehicle manual or owner's manual. The best one is always follow the guidelines that your manufactured outlined in the manual. Not only it will not void your warranty, you can also save save money in the long run.

Upgrade your engine oil to a higher performance synthetic oil, which can help to prevent internal engine problems and can also improve your car's mileage and performance.

Keep all tires properly inflated. If you have 4 tires all the same size, make sure you rotate your tires often. It can help your tire last long and also improve your car's mileage.

Make sure your car's wheels are properly aligned. It can prolong the life of your tires. The best alignment deal I've used is the wheel alignment service offered by Firestone. They offer life time wheel alignment service for only twice the amount of a single alignment charge, which means if you take your car for wheel alignment twice, and you could've make your money back.

If you notice unusual noise from your car, check with your car's repair manual for troubleshooting steps to diagnose the problem. You can save your trip to your auto shop by identifying the problem first. Some problems can be minor and you can even do it yourself.

Always take your car to reputable auto repair shop. There are many reputable auto repair shop, you don't have to necessary bring your car to your dealer for service as they usually cost more than others.

These are just some simple tips that could help your car keep running longer smoothly and may also save some extra money from your wallet.

If you have any other tips, feel free to contribute.

Happy auto repairing.

Genrally, you can count on getting about 50k to 70k miles from you car's clutch if your car is manufactured between 1950s to 1970s. The modern clutches now can last more than 80k miles if you drive the car gently and maintain them regularly. If clutches are not maintained well, they usually won't last long than the expected duration.

The most common problem found when the clutch goes bad is slipping. This is a result due to the frictional plate started to wear out, and eventually it won't transmit any power from engine to the wheels.

Keep this in mind. The clutch only wears while the clutch disc and the flywheel are spinning at different speeds.

Here's a Clutch Diagnostic Test
If you find that your clutch has failed, here is an at-home diagnostic test that anyone can perform:

Start your car, set the parking break, and put the car in neutral.

With your car idling, listen for a growling noise without pushing the clutch in. If you hear something, it's most likely a problem with the transmission. If you don't hear a noise, proceed to step three.

With the car still in neutral, begin to push the clutch and listen for noise. If you hear a chirping noise as you press, it's most likely the clutch release, or throw-out bearing. If you don't hear a noise, proceed to step four.

Push the clutch all the way to the floor. If you hear a squealing noise, it's probably the pilot bearing or bushing.

If you don't hear any noise during these four steps, then your problem is probably not the clutch. If you hear the noise at idle and it goes away when the clutch is pressed, it may be an issue in the contact point between the fork and pivot ball. Source: howstuffworks

There are two types of auto repair manuals that are available in the market:

Online service manuals that are downloadable

Printed service manuals that are available in book store or auto parts store

Online Service Manuals

The online service manuals are downloadable and printable from your own computer. The best thing about the online manuals are that whatever manual you will need for whichever car model, it is only a few mouse clicks away; you can download it from the internet in your own place. The downloading time is usually very quick depends on the speed of your internet connection.

If you happen to find yourself in an emergency situation that you need some information about repairing or maintenance for your vehicle, the fastest and cheapest way is perhaps to go online to find high quality service repair manual for your model.

Good auto repair manual sites features updated diagnostic and maintenance information. Their manuals are Factory Service Manuals which are written by the manufacturers and contain the original workshop repair procedures. This is probably by far the best manuals you can get because of the quality and precise information about your vehicle. Many auto technician professionals find these types of manuals are useful as they contain thousands of pages of diagrams and all the necessary detailed information for the specific vehicle and parts.

Printed service manuals
There are several printed service manuals available in the market now. Mainly can be distinguished in to two kinds: Factory Service Manual and Aftermarket service manual.
The aftermarket manual includes:

Clinton and Haynes Manual

These two manuals are pretty similar.

They all have simple step-by-step procedures, easy to follow format

Their target audience for amateurs and average mechanic persons

Focus on basic repairs and maintenance tasks

Contains lots of real pictures and graphics to guide the audiences.

For old car models, the information and illustrations are more generalized; newer cars are otherwise.

Price is cheaper

Bently Manual

Their target audience is for the more experience mechanics, and is considered by many experts as the hands-down best reference.

Only focuses on European model cars.

Price is medium to high

Factory Manual

Their target is more for the certified mechanics

Available from your manufacturer dealer

More expensive

Replacing your car's timing belt is not an easy task. It probably requires a full weekend to remove all the parts and then reinstall them back again if you are a beginner. If you have your factory car service manual handy, you should probably always follow it at the first time as it does often point out the details and tips on how to perform certain procedures.

So why do people replace their timing belt? The purpose of a timing belt is to provide a flexible connection between the camshaft and crankshaft to keep the valves opening and closing in phase with the movement of the pistons. When you car hits every 60,000 miles, it generally requires you replacing the timing belt.

You should always plan on changing your timing belt whenever you are accessible to the timing belt for other jobs, such as replacing water pump.

If your timing belt is worn or damaged, it can cause your engine to run rough or even not running at all if it's broken. A worn belt can decrease your power and lower your car's mileage. When a timing belt is broken, it can be catastrophic for the engine.

The condition of the belt is not easily seen as it is always covered in order to protect flying objects that might cause a damage to the belt, therefore you should always inspect your timing belt whenever you are accessible to the area or replace it at recommended intervals specified on your factory car service manual.

Lastly, if you are not comfortable replacing it yourself, you should seek your local shop to do the job for you. If you want to learn how to replace your own timing belt, you should follow the prodcedures specified on your factor car service manual.

If you have automobile industry background then you might have already known these two common terms: factory service manual (FSM) and aftermarket service manual.

FSM basically stands for the manual that is published and supplied as the product of a branded company; Aftermarket service manual indicates the manual that are available separately from other brands or sources and they are used and published by other companies.

The main difference between these two manuals is where the content come from and how much information and description they provide to the reader. One comes from the OEM or Original Equipment Manufactured end while the aftermarket is from any other company such as Clinton or Haynes, or etc that is working in collaboration with the original manufacturer. Moreover the other fact to be noted is that most of the factory service manual endorse better and higher quality both in terms of content representation such schematics, layout, pictures, diagrams, and etc.

The aftermarket service manual might indicate it covers from this year to that year for a particular model, however the contents of such manual are generally not very detailed to the specific year as each model year has slightly different parts and repairing procedures. This doesn't mean aftermarket manuals don't work for you at all as it still does its job fine if you have good mechanic background or you are just performing small repair or maintenance jobs.

So, it's usually the best to go for factory service repair manual if you are going to do bigger repair or maintenance jobs on your car, because you don't want to get stuck in the middle of repair and not to know how to do next.

Do you have a lot of keys on the same key chain as your car key? That is a pretty heavy load hanging off the car key when it is is in the ignition hole. These extra keys are extra weight combined with bouncing while you are driving, can result wear out to the tumblers inside the ignition and eventually lead to ignition switch failure. It's actually better if you can lighten up your key chain and try to separate keys in a different key chain to avoid this type of problem. If your ignition key sticks when you try to turn on the car, it is generally a warning that your ignition switch is about to fail and you should replace it before you get stranded.
